Who is this Terra person?
I am an undergraduate Animal Biology major at the University of California, Davis. Throughout my life thus far, it has been my goal and passion to learn about animals and share my knowledge with others to help preserve endangered species in need. My interest in wild animal conservation increased tremendously when I started volunteering at the Sacramento Zoo (4 years ago) and the California Raptor Center (2 years ago). Through these volunteer positions I get to witness and experience animal behavior first hand. Through both positions I play a key role in the care and maintenance of animals health. At the Raptor Center in particular, I have been involved with bird taming for educational talks, as well as the rehabilitation and release of many birds of prey. It is my dream to become a wildlife and exotic veterinarian and to one day travel and help animals around the world.
Why am I trying to go to Thailand?
I have been selected to participate in a unique two-week volunteer program in Thailand, working alongside other individuals from around the globe who share my passion to impact our world during the summer of 2012. I will be working under the direction of the non-profit organization, International Student Volunteers (ISV).
During my two weeks in Thailand, I will volunteer on a diverse range of conservation-based projects that are dedicated to making a difference in endangered species conservation such as: rehabilitating exotic gibbons and monkeys who have been rescued from the illegal wildlife smuggling trade, working in an elephant nature park, and scientific research in forests and jungles.
How can you help?
Being a full time student is a full time job, making it difficult to raise enough money for this endeavor. As it is, I already maintain two part time jobs to pay for school. This, on top of maintaining good grades and volunteering to gain experience before veterinary school, makes it nearly impossible to raise money to go to Thailand. The total trip cost in its entirety is roughly $1,985 plus flight (roughly a total of $3,395). I will save all money from my jobs that is not allocated to bills and school fees. Having sponsors for this trip is crucial in finalizing my eligibility to participate in this experience. Every little bit will get me one step closer to funding this fantastic learning experience in Thailand where I can make a difference in the world.
Why should you help?
Donations made by sponsors who file taxes in the USA are tax deductible within the limits of the law. Becoming a sponsor not only makes a significant difference in my life, but also in the lives of many endangered species next summer in Thailand, and all over the world in the future.
This trip means the world to me. Your time, consideration, and donations are more appreciated than words can describe. All sponsors will receive email updates about how my trip is going as well as photographs of the animals I will be working with and my experiences in Thailand. In addition, I have decided to volunteer one night at a homeless shelter for every $100 raised. Thank you for all of your time and consideration for this sponsorship. I truly appreciate it.
